OpenOffice 3.0 Released!
The release seems to have put great load on OpenOffice servers as the main site is down and only download page is available. If you visit the site, you will be greeted with the message: “Apologies - our website is struggling to cope with the unprecedented demand for the new release 3.0 of OpenOffice.org. The technical teams are trying to come up with a solution.”
I didn’t dowload this new release open office , but got information about this new version. So many of them , wrote in their site about this new software as extremely great. It is better than office 2007. If once you used this new open office , then you will not go for office 2007. OpenOffice.org is not a clone of Office 2007 (good call, Sun). It’s a full-featured suite that gives us everything we need from MS Office and the world of productivity software while keeping the bottom line quite a bit more reasonable (you don’t get any more reasonable than free). So friends , it is going to rock you all. After using OpenOffice’s MS Word analog, Writer, all day, I can confirm that this update is worth it for the improvement in response and load times, if nothing else.
The installation is still enormous, with an installer about 130MB for Windows users and 160MB for Mac, but the installation process is smoother. From start to finish, it clocked in at around 5 minutes, significantly faster than installing OpenOffice 2. People who use OpenOffice as their primary productivity suite should take advantage of the OpenOffice Quickstarter, which noticeably accelerates program launch times and has been made even faster in version 3.
